One of my favorite poems is from Robert Frost. The Road Not Taken Two roads diverged in a yellow wood. And sorry I could not travel both. And be one traveler, long I stood. And look down one as far as I could. To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair. And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear. Though as for that the passing there. Had worn them really about the same, And both that morning equally lay. In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads unto way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh. Somewhere ages and ages hence; Two roads diverged in a wood, and took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. Robert Frost (1916) And that has made all the difference!!! I would again stress the importance of playing smart rather than playing safe. Stay away from your comfort zone. Why would you delay your financial freedom when you can have a sure shortcut way to your destination. Okay let's start from the very beginning. First of all I would like to tell you frankly that if you are not serious about our topic, you can now stop reading up to here. But if you are serious about your future financial independence, come with me and I will help you with our very simple guide. Beginning here I would stress that I am not prejudice against poor or middle class people. In fact there are lots of intelligent people who are not rich. It is the mind setting that prevent them to reach financial success. I am not rich but I achieved
more than what I expect to reach. I was been broke as in no
money. In fact I grew up in the barrio far from the city where the
population is not more than 200. I spent my early childhood before I
went to high school in the small city where nobody knew that it exist
as a city or place in the Philippines. Most of the people in our place
are illiterate and never know who is their present president. But they
are hard worker and very religious. They are very easy to please and
naive. They would say that too much of having money is bad. That you
can't have both money and salvation. But we have produced two vice
president in our
country out of 130,000 inhabitants as of today. Come to think of it. I
just think big, my place is not urbanized and I am away from busy and
well inform society. My only arms were my dream and desire to look
for what is beyond the horizon. In fact I am an average guy. For me
it doesn't need a rocket scientist to know what is going on around. I
just want to play some important rule in our society by touching others
live and want to contribute something to our next generation in my own
way by doing my share of responsibilities as a human being. I want you to capture such essence because if we will discuss our important topic here without any motivation, the thing most likely to happen is to slip the topic and pop, it vanish like a whirlwind. Since we could not turn back the time.
Let's
stop blaming for our early decision about our wrong career, wrong
business venture and early marriage without preparation. They are under
the bridge now. Bury them and stop whining. There is nothing we can do
over the spilled milk. Start now!!! Unlearn the old ways of life and
begin discovering new ideas and option about business and money. If you
are not happy about your job right now because you think you are not
compensated well and there is no room to grow. The first thing you have
to do is to look for an opportunity in your company where you have a
chance to be promoted. You have to show something that will make your
company happy so you will get a raise. It includes a break through or
something like a contribution that will make your company earn or grow.
In short you have to sale yourself to the company. Make them aware that
you are important to the company without any intention of doing so. In
short don't be arrogant and maintain your good relation to your
colleague. They can help to elevate you. If your company is open about
partnership then go for it. Remember to be paid by result is better
than to be paid by hour. If possible ask for stock share. If one of
these is not possible to your present company then it is time to move. Now since you are earning whether
through
employment or self-employment and save some amount for small start, it
is time for business. But before anything else I want to share to you a
true and inspiring story of Madam Carol. Back in early 80's when I was
in elementary in our remote purok not a barrio yet as of now.
Manang Caring used to sell her Ice Candy there and sometimes I used to
help carry her Ice Box without any payment, though sometimes she handed
me one piece of ice candy. That is how helpful people were in my
place. One day she and her family moved to the small city because her
neighbor reprimanded them that if they will not flee, her neighbor will
butcher them one after another. Out of fear, they left our place. I
will not elaborate about the conflict. Anyway they were able to settle
down by renting a small house. The problem was, they have only P5000.00
as savings. How could her family survive? She and her husband were both
jobless. It was not just the money but I think the knowledge about the
money. On how to manage it and invest. One day her neighbor who was a
fish vendor asked her if she could lend money. Of course Caring
refused. But her neighbor insist so Caring give in. The fish vendor
promise to pay the P1000.00 plus 20 percent. Since she could not pay
P1000.00 cash she told Caring that she will pay everyday for 30
days plus the
interest. The rest was history. Now in business, we know that there is
a lot of competition. The best thing to do is to make your business
competitive. What I mean is you must have an edge to do this like for
example in terms of customer service and the packaging. In business
don't sell the burger, sell the sizzling smell. If your selling a
Television, sell the show instead. That is what we call packaging. You
may have
same price but when you lack customer care service then there is a
problem. Try to learn and know your competitor and adjust. Business is
not healthy without competition. Now if you feel you could not beat the
rival then stop your business otherwise you will lost your capital.
Venture for other business. Before I forget, to have a business just
think of thing which you enjoy doing and in demand. How could you earn
when people don't need it.
